US bioplastics distributor Sierra Resins Inc. is working with 3D Printlife to launch a bioplastic based filament body for 3D printing.
Sierra Resins, based in Mansfield, Mass., said initial testing of unpublished bioplastic formulations showed processability, smoothness and tolerance.
John Tersigni, president and CEO of the company, said that this special grade of 3D biofilament will be submitted to an independent ASTM-certified biodegradable testing laboratory. The bioplastics under test are currently used for film production and injection molding applications.
Sierra Resins chose 3D Printlife as a partner because the Los Angeles company distributes 3D printing equipment, supplies and applications and is well acquainted with the market.
Buzz Baldwin, co-founder of 3D Printlife, said the biofilaments are as good as other high-quality plastics and will help drive the sustainability of 3D printing.
