How to choose mould material reasonably?

When selecting mould material, the choice should be made according to different production batch, process method and processing object.

General injection mold size weight and verbosity differ very significantly, such as large mould can amount to several tons, little mould only a few kilograms, complex mold consists of dozens of parts, mold consists of several parts. In addition, due to different positions of the mold, its strength, heat resistance and corrosion resistance are all special requirements. Therefore, the selection of mould materials should be given full attention.

Generally speaking, the commonly used steel with carbon steel, carbon tool steel, alloy tool steel and alloy structural steel, mold punch die commonly used 12 crmo, 38 crmoala alloy constructional steel has good corrosion resistance: for complex Mosaic pieces, fixed and sideslip cores, the threaded core multi-purpose 5 crnimo, 5 crmnmo alloy tool steel, such as processing, this kind of steel after heat treatment deformation and good wear resistance and heat resistance. In addition, the guide column and guide sleeve can be treated by carburizing or quenching of general carbon steel or carbon tool steel to obtain high mechanical strength and wear resistance.

As in mass production, should choose long life of the die material. Such as cemented carbide, Gao Jiangren, high wear-resistant steel (such as YG15, YG20) : for small batch or new product can be used such as zinc alloy, tin bismuth alloy mold material;High strength and high toughness materials (T10A) should be used for common molds that are easy to be deformed and break and fail."B5CrMnMo ", which has good toughness, strength, abrasion resistance and resistance to cold and heat fatigue, should be used for thermal forging.High thermal fatigue resistance and high temperature strength alloy steel should be adopted for the die casting. The plastic mould should choose the material with easy cutting, compact structure and good polishing performance. In addition, in the design of punch and die, appropriate chooses different hardness or mold matching of different materials, such as: punch tool steel (T10A), die with high carbon high chromium steel (such as Cr12, Crl2MoV), mold can improve the service life of 5 ~ 6 times.

The following factors should be taken into account in the rational selection of mould materials:

The size of die parts. The area of parts determines the ability to withstand various strength and wear.

The number of parliamentary mold parts.

Attach the machining cycle of the mold.Complexity of automation tooling parts.

What type of plastic material the molds are exposed to.

After considering the above factors, select those with good processing performance, small deformation after heat treatment, good abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance and good polishing quality.
