What are the important and decisive factors in choosing die steel?
The forming method can be selected from two basic material types.
Hot working tool steel. It can withstand the die casting, forging and extrusion relative Xie temperature.
Cold working tool steel, which is used for blanking and cutting, cold forming, cold extrusion, cold forging and powder compression molding.
Plastics: some plastics produce corrosive byproducts, and other factors such as condensation, corrosive gases, acids, cooling/heating, water or storage conditions caused by long downtime can also cause corrosion. In these cases, stainless steel die steel is recommended.
Mold size: large size molds often use prehardened steel.Integral hardened steel is often used for small size dies.
Die usage: for long-term use (>1000000 times), high hardness steel should be used for molds. Its hardness is 48 ~ 65HRC.The mould used for medium time (100,000-1000000 times) should use prehardened steel with a hardness of 30-45hrc.
