Every year there is a global university student formula one race, and 3D printing is the first to be used in this cutting-edge car race.Bears at the South Pole has previously reported that a lot of cases, such as changsha university of science and technology team work with HuaShu high-tech components for 3 d printing, south China agricultural university team cooperation with Shanghai g and print the battery module shell, etc.
There are similar cases in foreign countries. On May 24, 2018, the Antarctic bear learned from the foreign media that 3D printing technology has brought advantages to the Spanish university team in the annual student equation competition.
The ETSEIB team consists of Spanish engineering students at the university of technology in Catalonia (UPC).BCN3DTechnologies has simplified manufacturing processes by using local manufacturers' 3D printers.
Since 1998, formula student competitions have pitted international college students against each other, creating, building, testing small formula cars and racing them. The event, organized by the association of mechanical engineers (IMechE), aims to promote innovative projects.
The team has more than four years of experience in making burning and electric cars.
3D printing redefines the workflow
Forty student engineers at ETSEIBMotorsport are using 3D printing to cut costs and improve logistics in their day-to-day operations.Specifically, ETSEIBMotorsport improves the workflow in three major areas.
First, 3D printing helps design validation and component iteration. With open source BCNSigmax, in-house engineers can print their CAD designs overnight. This radically reduces validation and iteration time, improves efficiency and reduces dependence on external vendors.
Secondly, 3D printing can achieve economic and efficient manufacturing.Students at ETSEIBMotorsport are building end-use parts and tools for cars, including brake pipes, cable straps and molds for carbon-fiber bodies.

Finally, because of 3D printing, the overall car cost and delivery time are reduced.Compared with traditional manufacturing methods, the team produced parts at lower cost and faster speed, especially the design of complex parts.By cutting car costs with 3D printing, the team saved thousands of euros in car development costs, allowing them to repay initial investment within the first month of use.

3D printing for the automotive industry
As previously reported, mass production using additive manufacturing is still far off, but the use of 3D printing in automobiles is increasing. The Italian carmaker XEV has teamed up with Polymaker, a maker of 3D printer wires, to build a 3d-printed low-speed electric vehicle (LSEV) for mass production.XEV reports that the use of 3D printing to make cars has eliminated processes such as metal and rubber stamping, welding and painting.
LocalMotors is another company that USES 3D printing in transportation and makes 3D printing cars.
ETSEIBMotorsport is in the top ten of three international equation student competitions in Austria, Germany and Spain. The team was named best Spain at Barcelona's Montmelo. The final will be held at silverstone UK on July 11, 2018, solstice 15.
