Common Injection Molding Issues and Solutions

Part Warpage and Deformation
Select low-warp materials like Rynite 935 (35% glass-mica low-warp formulation). Use glass-reinforced materials such as Zytel 70G33 (33% GF Nylon 66) for dimensional stability. Optimize gate positioning for balanced filling. Improve cooling system design for uniform temperature distribution. Increase mold temperature and extend holding time to reduce internal stress.
Surface Defects (Bubbles, Silver Streaks, Flow Marks)
Ensure proper material drying, especially for hygroscopic materials like PA (Nylon) series. For Zytel materials, dry at 80-120°C for 4-8 hours. Optimize injection speed based on material properties: medium speed for PC materials (Lexan series), higher speed for ABS. Add venting slots at flow end areas. Control barrel temperature strictly to prevent material degradation.
Inconsistent Dimensional Accuracy
Select engineering plastics for dimensional stability: PEI (Ultem 1000), PEEK (Victrex 450G), or POM (Celcon M90) with stable shrinkage rates. Establish standard operating procedures with fixed critical parameters. Implement closed-loop control systems for precision parts. Regular mold maintenance and temperature calibration. Use SPC statistical process control methods for quality monitoring.
Insufficient Strength or Brittle Failure
Upgrade to high-strength engineering plastics: high-impact ABS (Lustran 433), glass-reinforced nylon (Hylon Select N1033HL), PC/ABS alloys (Bayblend series), or super-tough nylon (Zytel ST-801). Optimize part design with proper radii and wall thickness. Control injection speed to minimize shear degradation. Select application-specific materials: UV-stable (RTP 200 UV), flame-retardant (FR series), or high-temperature resistant materials.
