The mold accommodates standard tube specifications - 13×75 mm and 13×100 mm for routine blood analysis tube molds, as well as 16×100 mm for higher-volume draws - and can be retooled for custom OD/length combinations on request. Material-wise, PET remains the dominant resin for vacuum blood collection tubes because of its optical clarity, chemical resistance, and ability to maintain internal vacuum over shelf life. For non-vacuum applications and certain coagulation test tubes, PP is also processed in the same mould platform with adjusted gate sizing and cooling parameters. Where clients require injection molded plastic tubes produced from PVC compounds - common in transfusion set components and drainage line connectors - we supply dedicated PVC blood tube mold tooling with corrosion-resistant cavity surfaces and low-compression-ratio screws to handle the material's thermal sensitivity.
PVC-based blood tubing - used primarily in transfusion lines, dialysis circuits, and extracorporeal blood loops - requires a different mold engineering approach than PET vacuum tubes. PVC's lower processing window and tendency to degrade at elevated temperatures mean the mold must incorporate low-shear gate geometries and precisely zoned cooling to avoid material discoloration or release of HCl gas. Addressing these risks at the tool design phase rather than on the production floor is what keeps reject rates below 0.3% across high-cavity blood collection tube production runs.
In medical tube moulding, bleeding in injection molding refers to lubricant or grease migrating from ejector pins, slides, or guide bushings into the cavity, contaminating the molded part surface.
